Saltville, Va.

Liddie Bernelle Surber "Nell", age 94, passed away April 24, 2025, at Valley Nursing Center in Chilhowie, Va.  Nell was born February 8, 1931, in Saltville, Va. to the late Charles W. and Sarah Nipper Surber.  She attended school at McCready Gap and Rich Valley.  She loved her Jack Russell Terrier "JR".  Nell was a lifelong member of McCready United Methodist Church

Including her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Jennet Surber Poston and brother-in-law, Clyde E. Poston.

She is survived by cousins residing in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia.

The family would like to express their gratitude and special thank you to Chase Baumgardner, her caseworker with social services, for expedient response to move her to safer and better living conditions in the Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  McCready United Methodist Church for all their love and assistance when she really needed it.

To Nell's family of devoted friends, Janet Woodward, Pat Ward, and Rita Taylor just to name a few.  Nell had so many very close friends that loved her and helped her in so many ways every day.  Also, her loving roommate at Valley, Diane and family for sharing their recent holiday gatherings with Nell, thank you Diane.  The valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center office staff and nurses that provided excellent care and service for Nell during her residence at the center.  Very well done.

Nell had a special way of ending a visit or a phone call with "I Love You".  She was full of love and care for most everyone.

Nell lived a long and happy life with many friends and a caring family.  She was well up until the last month or so when she developed a rare health condition which required surgery for her to recover.  She decided surgery was not what she wanted, and she was ready to be with her Lord.  Rest in peace.

A graveside service for Nell Surber will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Elizabeth Cemetery with speaker Cathy Cahill officiating.  Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.  Those serving as pallbearers will be Tim Roberts, TJ Roberts, Taylor Kopp, Mark Frye, Cole Frye, and Dennis Carter.
