Obituary

Linda Haynes Henderson

Saltville, VA

June 22, 1946 – September 21, 2024

Linda Haynes Henderson, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, at the age of 78. Born June 22, 1946, to William Ralph and Thelma Early Haynes, Linda was raised with strong values of family, love and community, which she carried throughout her life.

A 1965 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School, Linda soon married and began raising her three beloved children, Tracy, Michelle and David. She worked for many years at a furniture factory in Chilhowie and later at the Rite-Aid store in Saltville where she became a cherished fixture in the community. Her warmth, kindness and ready smile made her a favorite of customers and neighbors alike.

Linda's family was the center of her world. She took great pride in being "Mom, Mommy, MawMaw, MeMaw, Grandma, and Granny," to her children, her grandchildren Keshia, Aaron, Logan, Jason, Cody, Heavan, Cole and special granddaughter Ariel, as well as her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Liam, Neveah, Journee, Elias, Milana, Naomi, Rowen and special great-granddaughter Emmarie. They were all her "babies," and she loved them more than anything, never missing an opportunity to share their latest adventures and accomplishments with everyone and anyone who would listen.

Known for her infectious positivity, Linda left her family and friends with a lasting legacy of love. She ended every conversation, text or email with the heartfelt words, "Love you bunches." A true matriarch, she loved nothing more than hosting family gatherings whether it was a Sunday dinner, a summer cookout or a holiday feast. For Linda, the meal itself was secondary to the joy of being surrounded by her family, sharing stories and filling her home with laughter.

Linda had a passion for life's simple pleasures, and like many women of her generation, she was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley. She lovingly collected Elvis memorabilia, and it was often joked that if "Elvis Presley" were written on a napkin she would treasure it forever.

Linda was not known to be of great stature, which was running commentary between her and the family. She was most recently listed as a generous 5 feet tall - but her big heart, fierce spirit and sharp sense of humor made her larger than life. Linda's favorite family saying, "I love you a bushel and a peck," was a constant reminder of the depth of her affection for those around her. Her grandchildren honored this special phrase with many gifts across the years, which she proudly displayed in her home.

Linda is survived by her daughters Tracy Brickey (Rob) and Michelle Henderson, her son David Henderson (Alisha), her grandchildren Keshia Pickle (Dwayne), Aaron Brickey, Logan McGhee (Brooke), Jason Brickey, Cody Evans (Shana), Heavan Harris (Jeremiah), Cole Henderson, and Ariel Clawson (Jacob), and her great-grandchildren Isaac Pickle, Liam Evans, Neveah Evans, Journee Harris, Elias Harris, Emmarie Clawson, Milana McGhee, Naomi Evans, and Rowen Brickey, as well many cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents William Ralph and Thelma Early Haynes, and siblings Ralph, James, Kenneth, Carl, Malcolm, Larry and Barbara.

Linda will be remembered as a woman of grace, love and kindness, whose presence brightened every room she entered. She left an immeasurable impact on her family, friends and the Saltville community. Linda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit lives on through her family and the many lives she touched. In her memory, we will carry forward her legacy of love, kindness and the ever-present reminder: "I love you a bushel and a peck."

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Loupe officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service.
