Linda Haynes Phipps, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 3, 1944 in Saltville Virginia to the late Jack and Susie Olinger Haynes. She was a woman of strong faith and a long-time member of Grace Presbyterian Church. On December 31, 1962, she married the love of her life, Wade Phipps. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love and cherished memories. They always made their anniversary special, often celebrating in Gatlinburg, and had a relationship many admired. She worked many years as a hairdresser, and was a dedicated wife and homemaker. Linda always kept a garden, and enjoyed canning foods for everyone to enjoy. Above all Linda's family was her world, and she especially cherished her grandchildren. Her love for cooking made family gatherings and holidays truly special, with meals that brought everyone together. The yearly family vacations, holidays spent together, and special occasions will always be cherished. Her memory will live on through the love she gave to her family, especially her grandchildren, and in the hearts of all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Eleanor Holmes and Tammy Carter; and two brothers, Herbie and Tim Haynes.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years of marriage, Wade Phipps; her two sons, Phillip "Bo" Phipps and wife Lisa of Abingdon, VA, Sam Phipps and fiancé Tammy of Dispuntante, VA; grandchildren, Hunter Phipps of Charlotte, NC, and Jacob Phipps and fiancé Danielle of Marion, VA; sister, Teresa Dickens of Glade Spring, VA; Misty Phipps, the mother of her grandchildren; special pet, Itsy; special friend, Darlene Duncan of Glade Spring ,VA; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Darlene Litton and Pastor Barry Loupe officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at Mount Rose Cemetery. Tony Bise, Mike Bise, Travis Brown, Adam Carter, Bryan Haynes, and Greg Haynes will all be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the Emory and Henry Tailgate friends.
