Lois Burgess
Tuggle
Aug 9, 1931 — Feb 23, 2026
Saltville
Saltville, VA
Lois Burgess Tuggle, age 94, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.
Lois Tuggle was one of the strongest women you will ever meet and was very meticulous about her yard, and after five years, Mike finally got it right, and she was pleased. She loved working outdoors in her garden, where she grew vegetables and flowers. Lois had a "green thumb." She was a hard worker, making sure she did hers right and you did yours right. Lois would often keep all 6 grandchildren on weekends, and when Sunday afternoon came, she was ready to send them home. She enjoyed a big 4th of July celebration. Most of all, she always made sure everyone was fed, and her specialty was banana pudding. Lois always prayed for everyone. Her hobby was writing poetry and songs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Tuggle; son, Michael Tuggle; daughters, Debbie Maiden and Frances Debusk; parents, Thomas and Rhoda Gillespie Burgess; sisters, Sybil Parker and a baby sister; 9 brothers; and special friend, Eunice Burgess.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Faye McCready and husband, Ralph, of Abingdon, VA; sons-in-law, Michael Maiden and Jay DeBusk; brother, Curtis Burgess and wife, Alexine, of Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Tammy, Tracy, John, Ben, Adam, and Vincent; 7 great-grandchildren, Zach, Seth, Zoe, Ashton, Cami, Xander, and Lily; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Trish DeBusk for the excellent care she provided.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Valley Road, Saltville, VA 24370, with her son-in-law, Michael Maiden, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zach, Seth, Ben, and John DeBusk, Adam and Michael Maiden, with honorary serving as Ralph McCready and Jay DeBusk.
