Lois Ann Woodward Kinder, 73, of Tannersville, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Bristol Regional Hospital. Born on June 27, 1951, in Henry Town, Saltville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Woodward and Agnes Galliher Woodward. Lois was a devout Christian and a longtime faithful member of Crabtree Chapel Methodist Church in Tannersville. She served her church community with dedication as the Sunday School secretary-treasurer, membership secretary, and communion steward. Her faith was unwavering, and she touched the lives of many with her kindness and steadfast devotion. She was a tough, independent, and hardworking woman. She balanced her many roles with grace, working for over 40 years at Buck's Drive-In in Saltville where she was a familiar and friendly face. At home, she was equally committed, keeping the books and lending a hand on the family farm in countless ways. Lois was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt. Her son was her greatest pride and joy, and her family meant everything to her. She was a source of love and support to all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on her loved ones and her community.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years of marriage, Rufus "Hop" Kinder; her sister, Barbara Taylor and husband James; half-brother, Patrick Jenkins; nephew, James Taylor, Jr.; niece, Mary Rhonda Taylor; brothers-in-law, Otis, Ernest, Ronnie, John, Reece, and Curtis Kinder; sisters-in-law, Sally Kinder, Beulah Kell, Nellie Boothe, and Ruby Waddell.
Left to cherish her memory is her pride and joy, Alver Rufus "JR" Kinder; her brother, Robert Leon Woodward and wife Betty; brothers-in-law, Sam Kinder and wife Connie, J.B. Kinder and wife Connie; sisters-in-law, Patsy Kinder, Linda Kinder, and Shirley Kinder; nieces, Diane Mabe and husband Curtis, Virginia Jenkins, and Barbara Stamberg and husband Hans; and Tammy Woodward; nephews, William Patrick Jenkins, and David Leon Woodward; special nephew, Billy Lee Kinder; several additional nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great- nephews; special friends, Sandy Carter, and Sandy Hilt; and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Crabtree Chapel Methodist Church in Tannersville, Virginia, with Pastor Donnie Bailey and Pastor Mike Andrews officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will be following at the Caldwell Family Cemetery. David Woodward, B.J. Kinder, Charles McClure, Everett Terry, Mike Stevens, Ben Lamie, Ralph Hilt and Mike Davis will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Leon Woodward, Roger Davis, Richard Heffinger, Don Hilt, Brandon Woodward, Billy Lee Kinder, and Aaron Woodward.
