Marion, Va.

Maria Susan Hand Stanley, age 65, of Marion Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born on October 26, 1959, to the late James and Janet Hand. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her life was rooted in love, hard work, creativity, and deep devotion to her family—especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Maria had a heart as bright as the sunflowers she adored. She found joy in simple pleasures—working outside with her hands, drawing and painting, and even carpentry. She had a creative spirit, and was also a talented musician. She had a deep love for music and once played keyboard in a band. Her strength, warmth, and artistic soul will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Donnie Hand; and one sister, Penny Hamilton; and step-mother, Louise Hand.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 20 years of marriage, Larry Stanley; her son, William Hatfill and wife Rebecca; three brothers, Bill Hand, Kelly Hand, and Mike Hand; sister, Sherri Pinkston; two grandchildren, Kali Hatfill, and Damien Hatfill and wife Riley Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Braxton, and Milo; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog cinnamon.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
