Mary Elizabeth "Judy" Brickey Carter, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on March 14, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Broadford, VA, on September 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Cynthia Brickey. Judy was a woman of unwavering faith, a devoted Christian who found great joy in serving the Lord. A lifelong member of Roberts Chapel United Methodist Church, she lived her faith daily through kindness, grace, and love for others. A dedicated educator, Judy spent many years shaping young minds as a schoolteacher until her well-earned retirement. She was not only a mentor in the classroom but also a source of wisdom and encouragement to all who knew her. Above all, Judy cherished her family. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas A. Carter.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Pam Crawford and husband Todd of Blanchard, OK; her two grandchildren, Carter Crawford of Nashville, TN, and MacKinnon Crawford of Fort Worth, TX; special cousins, W.T and Judy Gillespie, and Sue Brickey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roberts Chapel United Methodist Church, 3916 Bluegrass Trail, Saltville, Virginia, 24370.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Riverside Cemetery in Rich Valley, Virginia with Pastor Chuck Starks and Pastor Katie Beth Bordwine officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
