Merle Jackson Worley, age 92, of Seven Mile Ford, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. If you were lucky enough to know him, you loved him and you knew he loved you. Completely devoted to his God, his family, and his country. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Virgie Lee Call Worley and William Trigg Worley; his siblings, Harold Worley, Johnny Worley, Norman Frownie Worley, Gladys Worley Keith, Willie Worley Frye, and Jeanette Worley Jackson. Merle is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 73 years, Bernice Eileen Burgess Worley; Eileen's siblings, Harold Burgess, Charlotte Burgess Jones, Betty Burgess Buchanan, and David Carson Burgess; his devoted daughters, Carolyn Dianne Worley Phelps and husband, Charles Phelps of Bluff City, Tenn., Teresa Kay Poe of Saltville, Va., Joan Marlene Worley of Chilhowie, Va., and Darla Sue Worley and husband Peyton Goodman of Walkers Creek, Va.; cherished grandchildren, Daniel Poe, Christopher Counts, Melanie Williams and husband Keith, Leslie Austin, Todd Austin, Alicia Phelps, Tara Colada, and Mina Goodman; blessed great grandchildren, Forest Carlosh, Lena Austin, Tyler Austin, Aspen Poe, Liam Rutter, Jimmy McCarraher, Tori Barbow, Lilyana Poe, and Jaylein Wimmer; and adored great-great granddaughter, Maia Rose Bentley. He dearly loved his extended Worley and Burgess families of nieces, nephews and cousins in Virginia, Maryland, Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, and West Virginia. A visitation will be held from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 P.M. on March 15, 2022, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Evans and Pastor David Burgess officiating. The committal will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery with Pastor Garry Evans and Pastor David Burgess officiating. Don Frye, Todd Austin, Tyler Austin, Charles Phelps, Peyton Goodman, and Brandy Snead will be serving as pallbearers. Christopher Counts, Daniel Poe, Forest Carlosh, Liam Rutter, Jimmy McCarraher, and Laken Rhea McGhee will serve as honorary pallbearers.
