Obituary

Abingdon, Virginia

Michael Joseph “Sippy” McCready, age 51, of Abingdon, Virginia, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Born on April 13, 1975, in Washington County, Virginia, Sippy was simply one of those people you never forgot. He had a personality that could light up a room and a sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. Whether he was cutting up with family, giving his friends a hard time, or telling a story that somehow got funnier every time he told it, Sippy had a way of making life a little more enjoyable for everyone around him.

If you knew Sippy, you knew you had a friend. He would do anything for anybody and never thought twice about helping someone in need. His heart was just as big as his smile, and he never met a stranger. Some of his favorite days were spent on the golf course with his buddies. He also loved spending time with his friends from the "Minnow Trap," a place where good stories were shared, lifelong friendships were made, and Sippy was always right in the middle of the fun.

Above everything else, Sippy loved his family. He was a devoted son, loving husband, proud father, caring brother, and a grandfather. His family was the greatest joy in his life, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with the people he loved most.

Sippy was a current employee of United Salt Corporation, where he had worked for several years alongside of many work friends.

There will never be another "Sippy." His laughter, kind heart, quick wit, and unforgettable personality leave behind a void that can never truly be filled. Although his time here was far too short, the stories, laughs, and memories he gave to so many will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his Paternal grandfather, Don McCready; maternal grandparents, Joe and Mabel Doane; and his father, Darrell McCready.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 15 years of marriage, Misty McCready; his children, Grace McCready, Londyn McCready, Skylar Perrin and fiancé Kimmy, and Cameron Perrin and wife Sydney; his mother, Daphne McCready, grandmother, Patsy McCready; brother, Randy McCready and wife Jennifer, sister, Amanda Fink and husband Zack; five grandchildren, Rahlee, Knox, Meadow, Xavier, and Walker Perrin; his aunts, Rita Rupe and husband Bobby, Lori Townley and Karen Perry; nieces and nephews, Chandler, Chase, Cianna, Charlee, and Juniper; and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Pastor Barry Loupe and Pastor Stan Dunham officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11:30 until 1:30 at Henderson Funeral Home prior to the procession to the cemetery.  Those serving as pallbearers will be Chad Wyatt, Eric Rolen, Aaron Newberry, Josh Carter, Scott Clear, and Travis Chapman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Chandler McCready, Chase McCready, and Peyton Castle.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Derek Snodgrass, the Salt Plant Employees, Saltville Police Department, Smyth County Community Hospital Emergency Room, and Smyth County Ambulance service.
