Mildred Ruth Clapp Chapman

Mildred Ruth Clapp Chapman, 97, of Saltville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 24, 2025. Born on September 22, 1927, to the late William and Lula Coe Clapp, Ruth was a shining example of faith, kindness, and love. A devoted Christian woman, she was a lifelong member of Quarry Church, where she cherished her church family and enjoyed serving and worshiping alongside them. Ruth was known for her warm spirit, positive attitude, and deep love for others. She was a friend to all and especially adored her family, who meant everything to her. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in spending time with them and giving them handmade gifts such as her quilts. A passionate organizer, she took pride in planning the annual Clapp Family Reunions, bringing loved ones together to celebrate for many years. She found joy in life's simple and beautiful moments, especially her love for bluebirds and butterflies.   She was married for over 50 wonderful years to her late husband, Paul Chapman. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, raising their children and creating lasting memories. Ruth and Paul enjoyed traveling together, taking trips to the Smoky Mountains, and even embarking on a cross-country journey out west and loved seeing all of the country. They lived several years in Georgia, but later returned back to Virginia, and Virginia always held a special place in her heart. Ruth will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert and Everett Clapp.

Left to cherish and honor her memory is her loving son, Barry Chapman and wife Teresa of Alexandria, VA; stepdaughter, Phyllis Johnston; two sisters, Ollie Mae Frye, and Barbara Jean Ewing; three grandchildren, Brian Chapman and wife Jamie, Christie Kimball and husband Jon, and Gina Chapman; three step grandchildren, Fred Johnston, April Tingler and husband Milford, and Ann Johnston; three great-grandchildren, Darcy, Everett, and Alexandra; and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers are accepted and appreciated, but donations may also be made to the Quarry Church, P. O. Box 1032, Saltville, Va. 24370.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Smith officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. An Entombment will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery Mausoleum.
