Monica Denise Thompson, age 37, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2024 in Cleveland, Tennessee. Born with a zest for life and a love for adventure, Monica was known for her fun-loving spirit and her caring heart. She loved activities such as horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and riding motorcycles. These passions defined much of her life and brought her endless happiness. She was a hard worker, and was an Area Manager for Capital Vacations. Above all, her greatest love, however, was for her family, especially her cherished sons, and her loving husband. Her devotion to them and her entire family was unparalleled, and she always made time for those she held dear. Monica had a big heart, always willing to help others and spread kindness wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Jackie Gearles; her brother-in-law, Delmar R. Thompson, Jr.; her father-in-law, Delmar R. Thompson, Sr.; and also, her grandparents.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 3 years of marriage, Steve Thompson; two sons, Eric "BoBo" Mayhorn of Freebrun, KY, and Keaton Mayhorn of Chilhowie, VA; the father of her sons, Shannon Mayhorn of Freebrun, KY; stepsons, Dylan and Noah Thompson; stepdaughter, Brandi Cregger and husband Keith; stepgrandson, Knox Cregger; step granddaughters, Abbie and Mollie Cregger; her sisters, Lynn Gearles of Stopover, KY, Stella "Pinky" Gearles of Mount Sterling, KY, Donique Gearles Mitchem of Williamson, WV; brother, Dennis Graham Gearles of Danville, WV; mother-in-law, Lola Thompson Waldron; sisters-in-law, Debra Davidson, and Kasey Paschal Arnold; brothers-in-law, Danny Thompson, Wesley Thompson, and Dale Thompson; several special friends; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate Monica's life will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Va. with Pastor Joey Roland officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow the service at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Keaton Mayhorn, Eric Mayhorn, Jonathan Greer, Danny Thompson, Wesley Thompson, and Dale Thompson will be serving as pallbearers.
