Nelson Lee Tuggle, age 89, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025 at Valley Health and Rehab in Chilhowie, Va.  Nelson was born August 9, 1935 to the late James and Bessie Mae Tuggle.  Nelson was the oldest of 11 children.  He loved to work and was employed by VDOT as a Bridge Mason for 34 years.  He enjoyed telling stories about his old days.  He liked to ride around and enjoyed stopping at flea markets.  He was a very independent man and was very particular about his yard and could not wait until Spring so he could start mowing.  He liked going rabbit hunting in his early days.  Nelson raised two grandsons and loved them dearly.  He loved his family and was always taking care of them.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Catherine Tuggle; several brothers and sisters; grandsons, Jason Lee Tuggle, Nelson Lee Jennings, and Robert Bradley Jennings.

Left to cherish and honor his memory is his wife of 18 years, Bertha Osborne Tuggle; sons, Michael Tuggle and wife Glenna, Roger Tuggle and wife Brenda, and Robert Tuggle; daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Jennings and husband WIlliam, and Patricia Ray; stepsons, Billy Thompson, and Cephus Thompson and wife Michelle; brother, James Tuggle and wife Ella Mae;15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services for Nelson Lee Tuggle will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Loupe officiating.  Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Saltville, Va. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home.
