Norman Eugene
Surber
Jul 29, 1936 — Apr 6, 2023
Saltville, Va.
Norman Eugene "Gene" Surber, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation at the age of 86.
Gene was a life-long resident of Saltville and worked at Westinghouse Manufacturing in Abingdon before his retirement. He worked and served the Lord and Savior for his entire Christian life. He was a humble and dedicated servant. He followed Jesus' example even in his career as a carpenter and a fisherman. He sought out those in need and gave help willingly and abundantly. Gene was a master guitarist and a devout church leader at the Valley View Assembly of God in Saltville. He loved and cherished his church family and led the congregation's musical praises.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lena Surber; his parents, Norman and Betty Surber; baby sister, Teresa Surber; and his beautiful nieces, Nicole Allison and Leslie Spence. We take great comfort in knowing they are all together again with our Lord in heaven.
Gene is survived by his sisters, Peggy Taylor, Sue Buff, Billie Jo Melbourne, Mary Snow, and Elaine Surber who all loved him dearly and looked up to him the entirety of his life on this earth. He is also remembered and lives through his multiple nieces and nephews who he cherished. We will miss our wonderful brother, uncle, and friend greatly but, we all know he is reunited with Jesus and we cannot wait to see him again one day.
The family wishes to thank the hospice caretakers, the dedicated staff at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation, and to all who visited during his time there.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at D. R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va. with Camille Moore officiating.
