Oliver Eugene "Gene" Holley, age 84, of Saltville, Va. went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, April 28, 2023 at his home. He was born October 9, 1938 to the late Lottie Elizabeth "Maw" Thomas Holley and Oliver W. Holley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Polly South (Fred), Hazel Geneva Bowman, Rose Marie Clifton (Herb); brother and sister-in-law, George Raymond Holley (Mildred); brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Briggs; sister-in-law, Shelia Holley; mother and father-in-law, Mary Ellen and Marvin Frye; granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Doane Holley; and nephews, Tim Holley and Donald Clifton.

Gene was a longtime member of Pentecostal Tabernacle (Dowell's Chapel) and later served as pastor of Valley Chapel Church for more than a decade. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 and was employed by Westinghouse in Abingdon for many years. Gene never knew a stranger, was a prankster to many, and always a friend to everyone that knew him.

Over the years, he enjoyed working on classic cars, his pride and joy being his 1955 coral and gray Chevy Bel Air.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elsie Lee Holley; son, Marvin Eugene Holley (Cathy) of Saltville, Va.; grandson, James Keith Holley of Chilhowie, Va.; brother, Thomas W. Holley of Saltville, Va.; sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Briggs of Glade Spring, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va. with Pastor Jeffrey Johnson and Rev. R. L. Frye officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Va.
