Broadford, VA Opal Virginia Oliver Wyatt ("Dot") went to be with the Lord on Dec 24th, 2020 at the age of 98. She was born in Thorpe, West VA, on Sept 1, 1922. She lived most of her life in the Broadford Community. She was preceded in death by her parents William Oliver and Sue Moore Oliver, step-father Nathan Hess, husband Carl Wyatt, sons Kell Wyatt and Deetsie Wyatt, daughters-in-law Linda Wyatt & Joyce Wyatt, brothers Claude Oliver & Toder Hess, grandsons Thurman Scott Wyatt and Brian Wyatt, brother in law Rodney McKinnon, sisters in law Ora Lee Oliver & Gladys Oliver. Dot was a member of the Saltville Volunteer Rescue Squad for 30 years, where she served as Chaplain & Treasurer. She touched many lives in her years of service in the back of her "prayer wagon". She served eight years as Chaplain of the fourteenth District of the Virginia Association of Rescue Squads. Dot volunteered many years with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile Program. She was adopted into the Walton family of the famous TV series by the youngest daughter Audrey Heffner, who was president of the Roanoke Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was presented with a Walton T-shirt and commemorable pin representing the 100 years of existence of the American Red Cross. She served five years on the Board of Directors for the Mountain Community Action Program. She was also a correspondent for the Saltville Progress. Dot was the author of "Broadford Area News''. She submitted these letters weekly until she was no longer able to do so. Everyone enjoyed reading her stories. She received countless awards and recognition throughout her life, too numerous to mention. Dot was also one of the first people to receive the "Most Beautiful People Award" from Smyth County. She was a lifetime member of the Broadford Church of God. Dot was a devout Christian and faithful servant. She was loved by all who knew her. She was known to her family and close friends as "Granny Dot". She loved her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Dot was survived by her son Gary Wyatt and fiancé Sherry Arnold; grandsons, Todd Wyatt & Wife Debbie, Chad Wyatt & wife Sabrina & Tony Wyatt; granddaughters, Shelly Waddle & husband Scott, Brandy Snead and husband Eric; great grandsons, Max Wyatt, Tyler Waddle and Brody Waddle; great granddaughter Olivia Wyatt; two sisters, Mary Harris & husband Chip & Margaret Mckinnon; two brothers, Tom Hess & wife Judy & family, Pat Oliver & family; daughter-in-law, Janet Hylton; sister-in- law Lois Hess & family; many nieces & nephews and many dear friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday December 28, 2020 at Ridgedale Cemetery with Rev. David Mumpower officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery and to please follow the COVID19 guidelines. In lieu of flowers, Dot requested that donations be made to Saltville Rescue Squad.
