Paul Alexander "Goose" Somervell, age 84, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Smyth County Community Hospital. Paul liked to go fishing, hunt herbs, and go to auction sales. He was a member of the Mountain View First Church of God. Paul was an employee of Virginia House Furniture for more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lucille Stevenson Somervell his son, Donald Wayne Somervell' brothers, Roger and wife Rose Marie Somervell, David Leroy Somervell, and infant brother, Donald Somervell; sister-in-law, Cannie Gay Somervell; and nephew, David Andrew Somervell.

Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Sue Somervell; his son Paul Luckett Somervell and fiancé, Kathi Martin; brothers, Sidney Somervell of Chilhowie, and Fred Logan Somervell and wife Jean of Rich Valley; sister, Alexine Burgess and husband Curtis of Rock Falls, IL; his best friends, Richard Shortt, and Charles Allen Harris; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Frye, Pastor Bob Neace, and Barney Blankenbeckler officiating. The family will receive friends from5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church cemetery in Rich Valley, VA.
