Richard Eugene Doane, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. Eugene was born on March 10, 1948, in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Albert and Isabelle Doane. He was a proud United States Army Veteran who bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. His valor and dedication earned him the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and numerous other commendations throughout his distinguished military career.

His life was a testament to courage, perseverance, and unwavering faith. He was an inspiration to his family and all who knew him. Above all Eugene was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord. He was a member of Brewsterdale Church of Christ in West Virginia. His faith, kindness, and love for his family and friends will always be remembered.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald A. Doane; sister, Mary Sue McGuire; and two brothers-in-law, James Taylor, and Jackie Wix.

Left to cherish his memory is his special friend, Daris "Dot" Parks; brother, Michael Doane; two sisters, Brenda Taylor, and Dreama Wix; best friend, Charlie Howington and wife Freda of WV; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Eugene will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Howington, and Rev. Ronnie Mars officiating. There will be military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard, and the V.F.W. Post #4667. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
