Ricky L. Harmon, age 64, formerly of Glade Spring, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after a brief illness at Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Rick was born in Washington County, Virginia on October 10, 1960, to the late Victor Harmon and the late Cletis Boyd. After graduation from Patrick Henry High School in 1979, he attended Virginia Highlands Community College where he earned his Associate of Health Science in Nursing in 1984. Rick served his community for 40+ years as an excellent nurse where he cared for many patients and many families. Rick practiced nursing in a variety of settings including the Emergency Room, ICU, Vascular Access Team, and most recently the Heart Vascular Institute at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence SC. Over his 40-year nursing Career, he gave 36 years total to McLeod and its patients in surrounding areas where he earned many service excellence awards with the most recent being the Healthcare Hero Award.
Rick was a faithful and active member of Abundant Life Church for 11 years and he loved his church family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Harmon; mother, Cletis Boyd Dishman; stepfather Troy Dishman; and great-nephew Bradley Mutter.
Rick was kind, caring, generous, funny, and he loved BIG. He had a jovial personality that would light up any room and brought pure JOY to everyone he encountered. He enjoyed entertaining all his friends and family and hosting parties for every occasion.
Left to cherish and honor his memory is his Virginia family, one brother, Michael Harmon and wife Carol, a sister whom he dearly adored, as she did him, Helen Mutter and husband Alan, all of Glade Spring; niece who was like a sister, Laura Richardson and husband Jay of Marion, VA; three nephews, Greg Mutter, Josh Harmon and wife Tiffany, and Adam Mutter and wife Katye of Glade Spring; three great nephews, Cameron, Dylan, and Connor; four great nieces, Allyson, Madison, Ava, and Eliza Kate; and his cat, Tiki. He also leaves behind a host of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly and keep his memory alive.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Abundant Life Church. Visitation will be held from 11 until 1:00 PM prior to the service. The Directors of Kistler Hardee Funeral Home are honored to be serving Rick's family. In lieu of flowers, donations made be given to a charity of your choice.
