Obituary

Marion, Virginia

Robert Howard Blevins, Sr., age 72, beheld all the wonders of Heaven as he entered that eternal city, joyfully reunited with his loved ones, August 21, 2025.

Robert was a gentle soul who truly wouldn't hurt a fly. He lived his life making sure everyone around him felt loved and cared for. Rarely did he complain, and he was almost always seen with a smile on his face. His unique way of showing affection often came through in playful teasing and "aggravating" those he cared about most—his favorite way of letting you know you were special to him. In his younger years, Robert worked as a gravedigger at Rose Lawn and later spent more than five years as a janitor at Merillat as well as the Marion Pentecostal Church. When he wasn't sharing laughs, Robert could be found sneaking Little Debbie snacks, watching TV with the volume turned all the way up (he was never too fond of his hearing aids), or enjoying a game of bingo—not for himself, but to give away his prizes just to see someone else's joy. He was known for handing out his famous "knuckle sandwiches" with a grin, and even more so for cherishing every moment spent with his family and friends. Robert's life was full of kindness, humor, and love. One of his favorite sayings, "Are you working hard or hardly working?" will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, experiencing eternal happiness with God.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Agnes Haseltine Blevins; daughter, Angela "Angie" Dawn Blevins; brothers, Randy Dale Blevins, Donald Bruce "Donnie" Blevins, Jayhue Wiley "Jay" Blevins; sister-in-law, Faye Blevins; mother of his children, Carolyn "Sue" Bryant; special friend, Buddy Lee Stone.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert Howard "Bobby" Blevins, Jr. and wife, Sandy; loving sister, Margaret Bernice "Sissy" Thomas; grandchildren, McKinsley McLay "Kinsley" Leftwich and husband, Austin, Bailey M. "Maddy" Blevins, McKayden Johnson, McKylee Jade Johnson, and Keegan Chase Blevins; great-granddaughter, Kalliope Leftwich; nephew, Wesley Thomas; a host of many loving friends.

Roberts family would like to thank the great staff of Francis Marion Manor for their skilled care and treating him like family as well as the loving residents for their friendship that Robert was grateful for. They also want to thank Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church for coming to visit with Robert often and mostly, his sisters unwavering love and dedication to taking care of her brother.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 02, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Glade Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 33234 Lee Hwy, Glade Spring, VA 24340 with Pastor Donald Mutter officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
