Obituary

Robert Alexander Eastridge

Saltville, VA

Robert Alexander Eastridge, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 16, 2024 at Bristol Regional Medical Center at the age of 87. He was born on July 19, 1937 to the late David and Gladys Eastridge in Saltville, Virginia. Robert was a wonderful person, known for his big heart and love for his family and friends. He was a graduate of R.B. Worthy High School, where he was a standout athlete. Robert went on to earn his degree from Emory and Henry College. After his education he had a long and successful career as a chemical engineer, dedicating over 50 years to General Dynamics. At work, he was well-known not only for his expertise but also for his great sense of humor—his colleagues always referred to him as "Meanie" because he was a jokester. In addition to his career, Robert loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed watching football and especially pulling for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Above all, he loved his family and his friends. His wife Peggy was his constant companion, and their shared moments were filled with laughter and warmth.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two sons, Daran and Robert "Rob" Eastridge; three brothers, David, Vernon, and Harold Eastridge; and two sisters, Mary Frye, and Nancy Clark.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years of marriage, Peggy Hayes Eastridge; his daughter, Tara Galliher and husband Randy; two brothers, "Bud", and Wayne Eastridge and wife Lou; one sister, Patsy Buchanan; special granddaughter, Hannah Galliher; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Mount Rose Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy Dunn officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
