Obituary

Roger "Peanut" Frye

Saltville, VA

Roger "Peanut" Frye, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. "Peanut" was born in Saltville Virginia on July 14, 1951 to the late Stuart Montgomery Frye and Daphne Helen Gilbert Frye. Known for his selflessness and a knack for lighting up any room with his humor, Roger was a one-of-a-kind individual who lived life to the fullest. His love for helping others was evident throughout his career. He had a long career and retired from Social Services, where he worked in adult protective services and the Virginia Employment Commission as a workforce representative. His dedication to others was a testament to his generous spirit. His love for helping others was both inside and outside of his career. He would do anything he could to help anyone in need. He was also a member of the Smyth County School Board, and a Virginia Highschool Referee. In his free time, he enjoyed rooting on his "Hokies", spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, teeing it up on the golf course with all of his comrades, and always supporting Northwood Athletics. Above all, "Peanut" had a tremendous love for his family. He was a devoted father to his own children and a loving father figure to many he considered his own. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and servant to his community.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 23 years, Diane Frye; his children, Kristi and Bert Sumpter of Salem, VA, Kevin Frye, Jake Frye, Beth Frye, Haylee Frye (Blake), Karlee Frye all of Saltville; his brother, Jerry "Byrd" Frye and wife Cathy of Saltville; his mother-in-law and caregiver, Wanda Eblin; special sons, Erik Puckett, and Wayne Carter; grandchildren, Sam Sumpter, Kaden and Kegan Frye, and Natalie and Mia Frye; niece, Melanie Arnold; and many other kids that he considered his own over the many years of his life.

In his final act of generosity, Roger donated his body to science through Restore Life to help with Alzheimer's research. This selfless decision reflects his lifelong commitment to helping others and making a difference in the world.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Saltville Golf Course with Pastor John Graham officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Henderson Funeral Home.
