Ronald Wayne
Holmes
Jan 18, 1940 — Apr 16, 2026
Saltville, Virginia
Ronald Wayne Holmes, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Born on January 18, 1940, he was the son of the late Donald and Gladys Holmes.
Ronald was a proud United States Army Veteran who carried a deep sense of patriotism and pride throughout his life. He was a man who truly loved the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fresh air, and time spent in nature. One of his favorite places was his second home, "Rainbow Campground," where he created countless memories with family and friends. Known as the camp cook, Ronald could always put together a good meal.
He was a gifted craftsman and an avid whittler who could carve just about anything he set his mind to. His talent and creativity made him quite the artist, and his work will be cherished by those fortunate enough to receive it. Above all, Ronald was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Rick Holmes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years of marriage, June Taylor Holmes; his four children, Johnny Holmes and wife Patricia, Betsy Holmes, Michael Holmes and wife Tabatha, and Eddie Holmes and wife Charity; three sisters, Rita Arnold, Barbara Hammond, JoAnn Delp; and two brothers, Donald "Junior" Holmes, and Mark Holmes; three grandchildren, Richard Holmes, Matthew Holmes, and Brianna Wheeler; great-grandson, James Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Arnold officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Taylor Family Cemetery.
