Ronnie Wayne Prater, age 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 following a lengthy illness.  Ronnie was born February 25, 1955 in Smyth County.  He was a 1973 graduate of R. B. Worthy High School.  After high school, he chose to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy.

Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed coaching little league football.  He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed slot car racing and always pulled for his favorite driver, the legendary Dale Earnhardt.   Ronnie also enjoyed fishing at tumbling creek.  He was an avid supporter of the Saltville Library.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pansy and Rob Prater, and Wendy Prater; brother, Bud Prater; and sister, Shidey Huntley.

Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 48 years and together a total of 50 years, Susan Dean Prater; one son, Joshua Prater and wife Kayla; and one daughter, Jessica Prater; brothers, Jim Prater and wife Armanda, and Mike Prater; sister Margaret Woodward; grandchildren, Zavier Terry, Sidney Prater, Jake Prater, Chloe Prater and a granddaughter, Lily Prater to arrive in August; special niece, Tracy McGuire; special friends Larry and Debbie Ledbetter; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
