Roy Preston Taylor, age 89, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Roy was a United States Army veteran who served two years in active duty and also five years in the reserves. He loved singing and playing his guitar; his children and grandchildren cherish the memories of hearing him singing growing up. He enjoyed gardening and watching it grow. He shared his produce with his family, neighbors, and friends. His front yard is home to many birds that he always kept fed. Roy was an outdoorsman who enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, and spending time in the mountains. The memories of Sunday drives with his children will always be priceless. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face with kind words to all he knew. Most importantly he pointed all of his family to Jesus, and because of this we have strength and comfort in knowing this is not the end!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Virginia Stallard Taylor; five sisters, Roxy, Juanita, Loretta, Thelma, Hester; eight brothers, Troy, Jeff, Andrew, Silas, Bob, Paul, Earl, and Morris Taylor.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lois Taylor; five beloved children, Robert Taylor (Donna), Rhonda Gobble (Archie), Elizabeth Lambert (Robbie), Sharon Kay Henderson (Dennis), and Barbara Price (Gary); beloved siblings, Bonda Jackson and Fullen Taylor; several sisters-in-law and their husbands, Mary Francis Blevins, Wilma Bradley, Christine Griffits, Norma Taylor, and Patty Taylor. fourteen beloved grandchildren, Walter, Sharon, Shawn, Preston, Angela, Brandy, Tasha, Rachel, Cherish, Savanah, Junior, Candi, Dare, and Lil Archie; thirty-six, beloved great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews,

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Henderson Funeral Home. The burial will follow at the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville, VA with military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and V.F.W. Post#4667. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
