Rudy Wayne Henderson, Sr. a beloved husband, father, brother, and United States Army Veteran, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Smyth County Community Hospital. He was born on January 30, 1942 in Saltville, Virginia to the late John Bill and Nina Henderson. Rudy dedicated many years of his life working at American Furniture, where he was known for his hard work and friendly demeanor. Rudy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed working around the house, tending to his garden, mowing the yard, and spending time swinging on his porch swing. His love for his home and family was evident in everything he did. In his free time, he also enjoyed metal detecting for relics. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy, Garland, and Mikey Henderson; his sisters, Jean Morris and husband Harold, Shelia DeBord and husband Mackie, Diane Allison and husband Ralph "Bunk", and Linda McElroy and husband Bill.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 29 years, Frances Jones Henderson; his remaining brothers and spouses, Gerald Henderson and wife Kitty, Danny Henderson and wife Linda, and Charles Henderson and wife Ruth Ann; he also leaves behind two children, Mitzi Henderson Frye, Rudy Wayne Henderson, Jr. and wife Angie; his step-children, Jeff Hayton and wife Sadra, Sharon Williams and husband Brian, and David Hayton and wife Christie; grandchildren, Kaelea Henderson, Millie Relfe and husband Lewis, and Cody Henderson; step-grandchildren, Hannah Hayton, James Issac Hayton, Sara Beth Williams, and Spencer Williams; great-grandchild, Evelyn Relfe; remaining sisters-in-law, Angie Henderson, Glenna Henderson, and JoAnn Tolbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rudy will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, with Pastor Mike Burton officiating. There will be military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and the Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service.
