Saltville, Va.

Ruth Ann Evans Smith, age 80, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  Ruth was born January 5, 1945, in Smyth County to the late Robert James and Margaret Elizabeth Evans.  Ruth was in her element working on the farm and she had a special compassion for all the animals.  She enjoyed working in her flowers during the summer months.  Ruth loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her brother and sisters.  She enjoyed cooking and having everyone at her house to eat.  Most of all, she loved her son, Michael and son-in-law, Randall.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Billy Wayne Smith "Boo", brothers, Bobby Evans, Carl Evans, and Walter Evans.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory is her son, Michael and his husband Randall Vaught; sisters, Mary Holmen, Carolyn Owens and husband Ronnie, and Ella Mae McNew and husband, Tom; special sister-in-law Jane Call and husband Bill; special friends, Teresa Gillespie and Anita Hess; her special fur babies, Fred the cat and Otis the dog; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Ruth Ann Smith will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Riverside Church in Saltville, Va. with Pastor Mack Blevins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverside Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Those serving as pallbearers will be Tom McNew, Jacob Green, Junior Holmen, Hal Campbell, John Campbell, Will Campbell, and Jackie Gillespie.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Owens, Jerl Armstrong, Barry Hess, and Louie Stevenson.

Flowers will be accepted and appreciated, and memorial donations may be made to Riverside Church.
