Saltville, VA Sadie Hayden Mitchell, age 91, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Valley Nursing Home. She was a mother to many, and the mother of the church. She loved to cook Sunday dinners for her family and did until she no longer could. Sadie was the backbone of the family and the glue that held everyone together. She was humble, kind hearted, with a selfless heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mami Hayden; her husband, Oscar Mitchell, Sr.; four children, infant daughter Sarah Mitchell, Oscar "Junie" Mitchell, Jr., Robert E. Mitchell, and Wesley Mitchell; three sisters, Nina and Daisy Griffey, and Bessie Boyd. She is survived by her seven children, Mary Wyatt and husband Bill, Wayne Mitchell, Jerry Mitchell and wife Delores, Retha Moore, Ellen Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell, and Amy M. Hart; four sisters, Louise Hall, Bertha Saltz, Nancy Griffey, and Carolyn Thomas; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Johnson and Pastor Mary Ann Trivett officiating. The burial will be following at the Elizabeth Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
