Sam Kenneth McKinney, 91, of Goose Creek, SC passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Born on July 8, 1932 in Saltville, VA, he was the son of Floyd McKinney and Maggie Poore McKinney.
SMSgt Sam McKinney (Retired) served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Engineer for 26 years. He was also retired from the Postal Service. He was an avid bowler and fishermen throughout his life and a fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth McKinney and Helen Mitchell (Bill); and his nephew, David Mark (Jody) Mitchell.
Sam is survived by his son, Michael Joseph McKinney (Catherine); his grandsons, Michael Joseph (Joey) McKinney Jr. (Rhea) and Michael Everett Dreher-Byrd (Jennifer); his great-grandson, Michael (Mikey) Dreher-Byrd Jr.; his sister, Christine Denton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation in Goose Creek, SC.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, VA with Pastor David Mumpower officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and your local ASPCA or animal shelter.
