Sammy Edward Turley, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 28, 1951 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Roy and Dorothy Gullion Turley. He was a man full of love and laughter, always ready to share a joke or tease just to see a smile on someone's face. Sammy had a knack for lightening the mood and bringing joy to those around him. Sammy proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was part of the honor guard- a duty he held with pride and respect. In his free time, he enjoyed watching football games, racing, and most importantly spending time with his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Sammy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit and humor will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lee Turley.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years of marriage, Darlene Turley; his daughter, Missy Frye and husband Eddie; his two sons, Edward Turley and wife Tomi, and Michael Turley and wife Brittany; brother, Roy Turley, Jr. and wife Sharon; sisters, Mary Ann Pruitt and husband Paul, Cathy Testerman and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Dalton Frye, Becca Turley, Kenzie Turley, Minda Turley, Willow Turley, Harley Turley, Summer Turley, and Devin Sartin; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Stella Frye; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at New Zion Church Cemetery with Pastor Greg Carrico officiating. There will be military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post #4667.
