Obituary

Wytheville, Virginia

Stephanie Lynn Hartzog, age 43, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Stephanie was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. She loved balloons, Minnie Mouse, bright colors, stuffed animals, and good food — especially cakes, ice cream, and milkshakes. She enjoyed riding in the car, feeling the wind on her face, and being outside. Her family affectionately described her as their "little stinker," known for pulling hair, playing tricks, and being wonderfully mischievous. Stephanie's smile was infectious, and her "playful heart" touched everyone she met. She lit up whenever her family was near, especially her beloved nephews, who loved to tickle her feet and make her laugh. She will be missed by all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Randall Lee "Snake" Hartzog; paternal grandmother, Alice Chapman; maternal grandparents, Domingo and Graciela Chavez; aunt, Isolina Chavez.

Left to cherish her memory include her mother, Elba Hartzog of Marion, Va.; sister, Randi Collins and husband, Brandon of Lebanon, Va.; two nephews, Matthew and Marshall Collins; uncles, Domingo Chavez, Jr. and wife, Chella, Richard Hartzog and wife, Michelle; aunt, Lupe Alarcon; cousins, Nadia, Jose Ramon, Anayansi and husband, Alex, Luisa, Andres, Kristen Kennedy and husband, Lucas, Carrie Frye and husband, Bill Joe; a host of many other loving family and friends.

Graveside services to celebrate Stephanie's life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Elizabeth Cemetery, 1025-1091 East Main Street, Saltville, VA 24370 with Pastor Mark Baumgardner officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Hartzog, Brandon Collins, Stanley Frye, Bob O'Brian, Billy Joe Frye, Lucas Kennedy with honorary pallbearers Matthew and Marshall Collins and Domingo Chavez.
