Steven "Steve" Clark Blackson, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Steve was born on June 9, 1950, in Harlan, Kentucky to William and Helen Blackson. He was a graduate of UVA-Wise where he received his bachelor's degree in education.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Blackson; and his twin brother, Mike Blackson.

Steve taught math for 32 years teaching at several schools in the Smyth County School System including Northwood High School. He loved his students dearly and they loved him. He would sometimes entertain them with "magic tricks" which they loved and looked forward to. He would also incorporate his teaching with the Jeopardy game which made teaching more interesting and fun for his students. After his retirement, he continued his teaching career working as a substitute teacher. Steve loved all sports, especially his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He enjoyed biking and being outdoors. More than anything, Steve loved and cherished his family enjoying every moment with them.

Left to cherish his loving memory is his wife of 18 years, Barbara Cardwell Blackson; his mother, Helen Blackson; his sons, Christopher Todd Blackson of Glade Spring, VA, Steven Chad Blackson and wife Michelle of Dallas, TX, and stepson, Dave Colley and wife Heather of Saltville, VA; brother, Jack Blackson and wife Lisa of Abingdon, VA; mother-in-law, Anna Cardwell; grandchildren, Darren Helton of Bristol, VA, Ingrid and Andrew Blackson of Dallas, TX, and Duke Colley of Saltville, VA; great granddaughter, Ellie Helton; God Daughter, Lauren Helton; special friend, Jim Montgomery; many nephews and one special niece.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville, Va. with Minister Jordan Blackson officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Cardwell, Noel Collins, and Johnny Hall.
