Steven Gary "Grizz" Ratcliffe

Chilhowie, VA

Steven Gary "Grizz" Ratcliffe, age 73, of Chilhowie, VA, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on November 5, 1950, in Glade Spring, VA to the late Otho and Elouise Herald Ratcliffe. He was a graduate of Rich Valley High School. He worked as a coal miner for Dominon Coal (Jewel Smokeless) in Buchanan County, VA, and was a member of the 1987 National Mine Rescue Champions. He was an excellent Cook and loved to cook for others. He always enjoyed listening to bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Doug Ratcliffe; sister, Charlotte Blevins; in-laws, Luchen and Emily Surber Haga; and sister-in-law, Cheri Haga Kale.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Laura Kathy Haga "Kat" Ratcliffe of Chilhowie, VA; daughter, Kimberly Ratcliffe of Abingdon, VA; sons, Isaac Ratcliffe (Moriah) of Meadowview, VA, Paul Ratcliffe of Saltville, VA; grandchildren, Bradley Ratcliffe of Charlotte, NC, J-Rod Blevins and wife Hannah of Fort Chiswell, VA, and Gracee Ratcliffe of Chilhowie, VA; sisters-in law, Sandi Haga Olshin and husband Herb of Abingdon, VA, Lisa Haga Levy and husband Will of Winters, CA; brothers-in-law, Earnest Blevins of Saltville, VA, and Alex Kale of Charlotte, NC; special friends and cousins, Bob and Lynda Mabe, Mike and Mary Ann Hayes, Buster and Helen Sexton, Gail Mullins, Mike and Greg Neal, Robert Roop, Henry and M'ledge Estridge, Stephanie Branham, John and Judy Wolford, Shelby Hagy, and Scott Hammonds; he is also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Following his wishes there will be a celebration of life reception at Riverfront Restaurant in Chilhowie, VA, on March 23, 2024, from 11-2 where there will be live bluegrass pickers.

The family will also be receiving visitors at 230 Bogey Drive, Abingdon, VA.
