Saltville, VA

Trudy Jane Boardwine, age 50, passed away on August 11, 2025, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born on September 4, 1974, in Smyth County, Virginia.

Trudy was a loving wife, daughter, a great mother, sister, aunt, and "Mimi" who cherished her family above all else. She especially adored her grandchildren and always placed the needs of others before her own. Known for her protective and giving nature, Trudy was someone who would always stand up for her loved ones. She had a passion for rock 'n' roll and heavy metal music and a special love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Her big spirit, warm heart, and fun-loving personality made her a joy to be around, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the countless moments of laughter, love, music, and generosity she shared with those fortunate enough to be part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Clayton Ball, Sr.; step-father, James Bennett; husband, Thomas Dewayne Boardwine; granddaughter, Carolyn Mae Doane; nephew, Cody Prater; and her mother and father-in law, Ruby and Thomas Boardwine.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Leah Boardwine (William Doane), and Laken Boardwine; special niece who she considered a daughter, Dalice Nelson; her mother, Brenda Ann Bennett; father, Robert Curtis Surber; brother, James Clayton Ball, Jr.; sisters, Brandy Prater (Wiley), Candida Bade (Kevin), Johana Bennett, and Nancy Ball Hayes; sister-in-law, Tammy Boardwine; granddaughters, Willow, Ruby, and Emlyn Doane; grandsons, Roland Doane, and Aiden Boardwine; best friend, Lorrie Landon Ayala; special friend, Ervin Blevins; special nieces, and nephews, Santana, Mattie, Lilah, Lilly, Kayla, Cameron, Corbin, Lane, Chance, Jack, and Gunner; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and her special pets, Toby and Tilly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Duff officiating.
