Obituary

Emory, Va.

Vicki Rexroad Everhart passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 16, 2026, with her family by her side. Born December 18, 1959, to Reginald Gray Rexroad and Shirley Myers Rexroad.

Vicki grew up in Southwest Virginia surrounded by the family and community that would remain so important to her throughout her life. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School, Vicki continued her education at Virginia Highlands Community College and Virginia Intermont College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Social Work. Her desire to help others led her to further her education at the University of Tennessee, Nashville Branch, where she earned a Master of Science in Social Work. Vicki began her professional career as a staff psychotherapist with Vanderbilt Adolescent and Young Adult Health in Nashville, Tennessee. She later practiced in Richmond, Virginia, at St. Mary's Behavioral Health Services. Although her education and career took her away from Southwest Virginia for a time, Vicki eventually returned home to be near her family—the place and the people who were always closest to her heart.

Caring for others was not simply Vicki's profession; it was very much a part of who she was. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life, and she especially loved serving as Vacation Bible School Director at the Quarry Church. Creative by nature, Vicki delighted in developing themes and finding memorable ways to help children understand their spirituality and the Christian faith. More than anything, she wanted children to learn from an early age that when troubles came their way, they could turn their Eyes upon Jesus and find strength for the struggles of everyday life. Vicki lived that faith quietly herself. She was deeply spiritual and devoted time to studying her faith and praying for others. She always had a long prayer list, filled with the names and needs of people she carried faithfully in her heart.

At home, Vicki was affectionately known as the family chef, and cooking for the people she loved brought her great happiness. Her "Sheck Chocolate Cake" became a family tradition and a favorite at holiday gatherings. Her niece and nephews loved it so much that birthdays often came with one special request: Would Vicki make the cake?

She was also a wonderful gift giver. Vicki loved shopping, but the joy for her wasn't simply in buying something—it was in finding just the right gift for each friend or family member. She put thought and love into those choices and had a special way of making holidays feel like occasions to remember. Those gestures reflected Vicki herself.

Vicki was humble and kind, a devoted friend, and someone who cared deeply about the people in her life. Whether through her professional work, her church, a meal prepared for family, a carefully chosen present, or the name of someone written on her prayer list, Vicki found many quiet ways to care for others.

Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Reginald Gray Rexroad; her paternal grandparents, Victor and Ione Rexroad; her maternal grandparents, Rolen and Maude McNew; and her niece, Ashlie M. Gentry.

Left to cherish Vicki's life and memory are her mother, Shirley Myers Rexroad, and her sister and brother in-law, Kathy and Tom Gentry, all of Emory, Virginia; her niece, Autumn Morton and husband Brian, and their children, Cassidy and Eli, of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and Bryce and Madison Morton and their daughter Maggie, of Easley, South Carolina. Vicki is also survived by her paternal aunt, Sally Weeks of Panama City, Florida; paternal uncles, Donald Rexroad of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Arnold Rexroad of Charles Town, West Virginia, and Allan Rexroad and Blair of Maysville, West Virginia; maternal aunts, Doris McNew of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Denise Trahan and Jake of Egan, Louisiana; along with extended family and many treasured friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather in remembrance of Vicki on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the chapel of D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Virginia. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Leonard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia. Pallbearers are Brian, Bryce and Eli Morton, Jeremy McNew, Mike Mullins, and Gerald Blankenship. Honorary Pallbearers are Buddy Joe McNew, Michael Wynegar, Jake Trahan and the men of the Quarry Church.
