Vivian Lucille
Norris
Feb 12, 1941 — Sep 8, 2026
Meadowview, VA
Vivian Lucille Mays Norris, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Vivian was born on February 12, 1941, in Mendota, Virginia, to the late Dillard and Bessie Mays.
Vivian was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a truly selfless woman who spent much of her life caring for others, always willing to lend a helping hand and putting the needs of those she loved before her own. Being a caregiver came naturally to Vivian, and over the years, many were blessed by her kindness, patience, and loving heart.
Her family was everything to her, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by those she loved. Each of her grandchildren held an especially dear place in her heart, and she treasured every moment she was able to spend with them.
Vivian was also a hardworking woman who spent nearly 20 years with DuPont in Martinsville. When she wasn't working or taking care of someone else, she enjoyed the quieter things in life. She loved to cook for her family, work crossword puzzles, and spend time coloring. These simple pleasures suited Vivian well, as she was happiest enjoying life alongside the people who meant the most to her.
Vivian was a Christian woman and a faithful member of Meadow Springs Community Church. Her faith was an important part of her life and could be seen in the love, compassion, and generosity she showed to others.
Vivian leaves behind a beautiful example of what it means to live a life centered around faith, family, and caring for others. Her loving and selfless spirit will be deeply missed, but the many lives she touched and the love she gave so freely will remain in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Franklin “Gene” Norris, Sr.; her son, Jeffrey Norris; daughter, Barbara Mitchell; and several siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Franklin Norris of Glade Spring, VA, and Doug Norris of Meadowview, VA; son-in-law, Bill Mitchell of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren, Carla Allen, Justin Mitchell, Houston Norris, and Austin Norris; seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Norris, Kaden Norris, Sage Norris, Kolby Mitchell, Peyton Norris, Shawna Norris, and Paige Allen; great-great grandchildren, Harrison Mullins and Kallee Norris; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Norris officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 1 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will be following at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery.
