Whrenza "Homer"
Davenport
Jun 11, 1952 — Oct 7, 2025
Saltville
Saltville, Virginia
Whrenza "Homer" Davenport, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at his home in Saltville, VA.
Wren spent 50 years working "harder than a one-eyed cat staring into two rat holes" as a pipe fitter mostly for Nicholson Sprinkler Corporation. After retiring, he devoted his time to caring for the love of his life and later his childhood family farm, a place that held a special place in his heart. He also enjoyed working in the sawmill and took great pride in keeping busy and to many, he was the strongest man they had ever met. Family was the center of his life. He deeply cared for each of them and cherished the time they spent together. Known for his great sense of humor, he could always bring a smile or a laugh to those around him. He had a deep love for his Creator, Jehovah, and found comfort and joy in reading his Bible. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Eva Mae Davenport; parents, Homer and Marie Davenport; brothers, Deja, Hytha, Buck, and Dusty Davenport.
Wren is survived by his sons, Allen Davenport (Wendy), Elija Davenport (April); daughter, Sara Mitchell (Joel); sister, Colleen Davenport Taylor; 6 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 09, 2025 at the Montgomery Cemetery with Tony Salfi officiating.
