Saltville, VA William David Coulthard died of cancer on January 10, 2021. He was born on February 8, 1942 in Saltville, VA, the second son of Hilda and Holmes Coulthard. Bill was a 1960 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School. He was of the Methodist faith. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Sandy Coulthard. Left to cherish his memory are daughters Lisa Weikel and husband Walter of Morristown, TN, Kim Coulthard and companion Sarah, of Maryville, TN, and son David Erik Coulthard and companion Andrea of Marion, VA, grandsons Jackson (Amethy) Weikel-Sandstrom, Mark Weikel, Sam Weikel, and Jacob Coulthard, brothers Ron Coulthard and wife Lynn of Boone, NC, Dan Coulthard and wife Diana of Tazewell, VA, and sister Joan Minnick and husband Stewart of Abingdon, VA, nephews Scott, Brian, and Jeffrey Coulthard, and Andy Pope, and nieces Amy Coulthard, Taimico Guylar, Robin Pope, Heather Beeker, and Jennifer Caton. Also surviving are an uncle, Bob Coulthard and his wife Page of Sugar Grove, VA, and aunts June Overbay of Chilhowie, VA and Mattie Gray Henegar of Saltville, VA. As a young family man, Bill worked as a roofer, brick mason, and limestone miner in Saltville. During the early days of computers, Bill became a program-conversion specialist, first for Olin Chemicals and then for banks in North Carolina, Connecticut, and Ohio, where he also completed a degree in psychology from Wayne State University. When Bill reached retirement age, he moved back home to the South. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest, first and foremost times spent with his family, such as card games at sister Joan's home in Abingdon and regular holiday gatherings. He also enjoyed beach trips with his family. Next came football pools and casino jaunts with his best buddy, Emerson Solomon. Betty Joan Coulthard, special friend and the mother of their children, served tirelessly as his caretaker during the final days.
