William Kenneth (Bill) Watson, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Bill was known to his family as a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He was known to many as a devoted friend, pastor and counselor and will be missed by so many who loved and respected him.
Bill was born to the late Luther and Agnes (Cricket) Watson in Broadford, Virginia. He attended Rich Valley High School graduating in 1963 where he was well known as a fun-loving young man who enjoyed and excelled in various sports. It was here that he met the love of his life, Lynda. After high school, Bill began working as a machine operator in various capacities and with different companies. He later answered the call to become a Minister within the First Church of God and served as a pastor for over 40 years. He led churches in Broadford, Groseclose and Norton, Virginia as well as Summerville, South Carolina where he spent 22 years as a pastor until his retirement in 2011.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lynda Necessary Watson; beloved daughter, Deanna Doyle, and precious granddaughter Sarah Pickle, parents Luther and Agnes (Cricket) Watson; brother Jimmy Watson; parents-in-law, Lee and Leola Necessary; and nephews, Mike Roberts and Reed Miller.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Teaster and partner Jerry Breen; son, William Watson, Jr., and wife Barbara; granddaughters, Hilarry Pickle and partner Eric Rhodes, Brenna Crabtree and husband Dorian, and Erin Teaster, great-grandchildren Keiren Woods and Gracelyn and Piper Crabtree, step-grandchildren Haley Lamie and husband Cody, Holli Carter and fiancé Eric Simmons, and Dylan Carter, step great-grandchildren Mason and Bentley Simmons and Sayler Carter, sister and brother-in-law, Jorita and Bobby Roberts; nephew, Mark Roberts and wife Betsy; sisters-in-law, Janice Schupp and Judy Miller; brother-in-law, Gary Necessary and wife Gloria.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the following providers for their care throughout Bill's treatment: Dr. Kristen Bresowar and Nurse Stephanie Roop, staff at Saltville Medical Center, CVA Heart Institute of Abingdon, Amedisys Home Care Services and Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia. An extra special "Thank You" to the devoted ladies who helped us care for him at home, Drema Neal and Donna Jennings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2022 at the Chilhowie First Church of God in Chilhowie, Va. with Pastor David Mumpower and Pastor Jeremy Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2022 at Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley, VA.
